- Live the 5Bs - Be truthful. Be real. Be yourself. Be transparent. Be consistent.
- Think one-level up - Take a step back and see the bigger picture. Think like you own the business.
- Lead by example - "Say what you do and do what you say".
- Listen with empathy - Listen to understand. Don't interrupt. Don't finish the sentence for the other party. Don't jump to conclusion. Ask for clarity.
- Communicate openly - Speak freely. Don't be afraid to give your opinion, it counts. No question is a stupid question. Differentiate "facts" from opinions. State your "beliefs" and "assumptions". Don't give surprises.
- Take responsibility for your actions - Focus on process rather than people. Avoid personal attacks. Don't place blame.
- Stay calm - Control your anger. If you lose it, take a step back.
- Call time-outs - Take a break when things are getting nowhere. Stop when "hitting the wall". Get back "on track" to the norms. Get attention when you are not following the norms.
- Respect confidentiality - Don't gossip. You may have information that you can't share. It's okay to say "I'm sorry, I can't share the information".
- Value All - Be open to differences. Recognize that everyone has something to contribute.
- Give credit away - Use "We" rather than "I". Your success is a reflection of your team success.
- Manage time & priorities - Have a meeting agenda, stay focused and keep it simple. Be punctual. Email protocol: Use "Reply All" only when necessary.
- Celebrate and have FUN! - Don't forget to recognize and celebrate good work. Look for things done right.
- Practice Work-Life balance - Get your work done but "make time" for family and fun.
